Hi All

I’m new here to the group, I just wanted to reach out to hear anyone else’s stories who have gone through anything similar to what my mum is currently going through and any advice that people may have? Or even sharing what’s happened in their journey? Positive or negative I’m all ears.

My mum had tongue cancer 2 years ago she underwent a tongue reconstruction and radiotherapy and she recovered very well from this, but then in June this year she was diagnosed with primary lung cancer, she under went curative surgery to remove the tumour only to deteriorate health wise shortly after surgery so a CT scan was done in November.

Following the CT scan at the start of November we unfortunately found out the tumours had already grown back in her lung it has spread to the other lung, liver, breast, spleen and multiple other bones including her ribs, pelvis and vertebrae. Although deep down I knew something wasn’t right it was a huge shock to discover the extent of the spread in such a short space of time.

She is currently having immunotherapy to try and limit the spread  but so far has only been well enough for 1 round of this. We don’t know how long she has as the aggressiveness of the cancer is unusual so doctors aren’t sure, her husband is doing her day to day care and I am helping daily and with all her appointments etc.

she wants to know how will she know when the end is near and I feel helpless not being able to help her as I just don’t know.

  • My brother in law has stage 4 lung cancer spread to skull, other lung and liver, he’s in hospital with fluid on lung he’s had one chemo and one immune therapy, he has gone down hill he was only diagnosed nov3, he’s legs won’t work he can’t eat he’s only 59 he’s in uk we are in canada we are going over next Wednesday what should have been for his 60 th birthday surprise, how quick this happens is scary, I hope you mum is not near the end or my brother in law

  • Oh no I’m so sorry to hear that it must be hard being so far away too. My mum is only in her early 60’s and was very mobile but her mobility has decreased rapidly too she now needs a wheelchair, I think that is from the spread to the bones in her case. I really hope they can stabilise the fluid on your brother in laws lungs so that he is well enough to come out of hospital and be at home.

  • Thank you so much for replying , I hope your mum does well xx
