I’m writing on behalf of my husband who has two nodules in his lung according to a recent PET scan. He is due to have a biopsy next week through his side and is very scared, although he won’t admit it to anyone apart from me. His main concerns are a possible collapsed lung or internal bleeding. I’m not sure if that’s likely to happen, or if it does, what symptoms would occur as a result (apart from, presumably, breathing difficulty).
Also, will he be okay getting a taxi after the procedure? I don’t drive and he refuses to ask any of our friends.
Sorry to sound so ignorant but this is a new experience for us. I’m actually feeling pretty scared about it myself.
Hello chocaholic28
i completely understand you & your husbands fears. Can I just reassure you ? If there are any problems post biopsy, he will be kept in hospital. It’s a worrying time but staff are amazing & accustomed to dealing with patients anxieties & fears. Good luck !
Good morning lovely people.
2nd CT scan on 17 April this tear (R upper lobectomy Dec. 2022) recent scan has shown my middle lobe is compressed. Having bronchial lavage on the 23rd May. Letter to GP from consultant described it as possible middle lobe syndrome, GP unsure what this is. Regular chest infections but one in December this year & a few weeks ago really floored me. Throat is quite raw & my voice is quite hoarse. Anyone able to suggest any ideas on what's going on with me ?
Many thanks for your reassurance, Indian. It was just that I can imagine him coming over all macho while he's there. He's not generally good at expressing concerns or asking questions..
You’re very welcome, good luck to both of you !

Hi chocaholic28, I've had this exact procedure done on Wednesday 30th November. I completely understand your fears - being at the business end of a hospital is no one's idea of fun. All I can say is he is in the right place. It's scary, but he can do it, and he needs to do it to find out what he is dealing with. The nurses told me that they'd be worried if I wasn't anxious - it's a big deal being operated on. He's within his rights to ask for meds to help him cope - I asked my GP for diazepam to handle all the tests I've had to have and they dosed me up before my operation to keep me calm. That helped. He can expect to have patient controlled morphine after the op, and a chest drain. He can do it. It's gruelling, but it can be done. He'll be fine in a taxi afterwards, but won't be able to drive until the consultant clears him to. I wish you both the best of luck. I couldn't wait to get home, but I am recovering well. He must look after himself, eat and drink well and mobilise as soon as he can. Sending you lots of love, and let us know when he escapes from hospital. xx
