Hi all, had 3 cycles of chemo, cisplaton and vinorilbin , 30 sessions of radiotherapy and 1 year of imfinzi Immunotherapy, Outcome was good cancer is stable and not spread, the only problem I’m now having is brittle bones in back due to radiotherapy, had a wedge fracture last December which was really painful but got thru it ok drs put me on Allendronic Acid 75mg to help strengthen bones. Just had my 6 monthly ct scan cancer still stable but has shown further fractures in back which will explain back pain I’ve been getting , Consultant is going to see what can be done to help to stop further fractures by the way I’m a 64 Year old Female. Has enyone else experienced this.

  • Hi Evelyns

I have had the same issue and have been on the Allendronic Acid and Vitamin D3 combo for a number of years.  Unfortunately, being post menopause also contributed to the weakening of the bones, so no-one can be sure as to whether chemo or menopause had the greatest impact on my bones. In addition to the medication, I do a lot of walking, as gentle exercise helps to strengthen the skeleton

It is recommended that Allendronic Acid is only given for up to 5 years. I have been on it for longer so am expecting to be taken off it in the near future, if I ever manage to get an appointment with my GP!

    Hope this helps a bit.

  • Hi Kegsy thanks for your reply, I’m also post menopausel, so maybe a contributory cause along with the radiotherapy, will wait and see what the consultant comes up with.
