6 days post op

Hi all.

I am 6 days post op from a lower lobectomy . I just wanted to say, to anyone who has this op in store  it wasn't as bad as I anticipated Grinning. I had 4 hays in high dependency after the op because both my blood sugars and blood pressure were too low but I followed doctors orders and within 24 hours I had gone down from 4 canulas to 1, off the oxygen and capheter removed. I am now home and on basic painkillers.  I have orimorph but haven't needed it . The only pain I have is at the site of my drain  when I cough. I am very breathless when I walk upstairs but apart from that I am pain free. Well maybe the occasional twinge but I'm not complaining about that. Lol

So if anyone is facing this procedure in the near future, I hope this will put your mind at rest a bit. Slight smile

  • hi didi,I had operation in july this year for removal of the middle lobe ,was home in 5 days but with a portable chest drain ,i too suffered pain at the site of my drain ,but it slowly eases ,i found sneezing and yawning difficult ,now 15 weeks later i still get the odd twinge ,but besides that i am carry on with normal life .i will say listen to your doctors rest when you need it and dont do too much too soon ,good luck

  • HI christie.

Thank you for your reply. It is so good to hear from people in a similar situation. Slight smile. I am almost 3 weeks post op now and have some really good days but I think I tend to over do it on those days and suffer the following day.

    Are you having further treatment?

  • So glad your op went well and I hope your good recovery continues. I am currently being assessed to see if I am fit enough to have the surgery. I'm 74 and never had an operation in my life and I must admit I'm terrified but your post is very encouraging.

  • Don’t worry I’ve been called much worse Joy

  • Thank you Pepper12. I am glad that i could put your mind at rest a little bit. I think it is the fear of the unknown.  I went to get my stitches out yesterday and got a little bit worked up about it but I didn't feel a thing Slight smile

    • Thanks Didi - I think you're right it is the fear of the unknown. Glad to hear your stitch removal went well. Will you have to have any further treatment?
    • Take care and very best wishes for a speedy recovery.
