Chemo and Osimertinib together?

I know all areas are different but wondered if anyone has been able to continue Osimertinib at the same time as having chemo?

My sister is in the position where Osi has been working well for a year for stage 1Vb lung cancer with secondary liver tumours. All else is clear and some tumours have gone completely, some have shrunk and the others have stayed the same. She has had a wonderful and unexpected year but now one liver tumour has woken up and is growing. She has been offered chemo, with the consultant recomending the 'aggressive' quadruple one but saying she could choose the more reasonable one with two drugs also but she has to stop Osimertinib which is holding all the other tumours at bay.

The worry and the consultant says is very likely, is that when she stops the Osimertinib, the others tumours will all wake up and if the chemo is not successful (this isn only palliative to extend her lovely life) and things will progress everywhere. Stuck between a rock and a hard place and just looking for any experiences so she/we can make the decision which the consultant is pressing for daily.

Thank you all and just to reiterate, we are not looking for advice on what to do as understand that every situation is different, but just wanting to hear of other experiences and of course, it goes without saying that I am sorry and sad that anyone should be here at all.

Thank you once again and wishin you all peace.

  • Hi J. What an awful dilemma. I think that because Osimertinib  is relatively new, there isn’t enough research with chemo alongside it.  Has the oncologist suggested continuing with the Osimertinib for now to see if the liver stabilises?  Such an awful situation and I feel for you, I wouldn’t know what the right decision would be. • Thank you so much for your reply ChelleHugging It is a difficult situation. She has been exceptionally well and was put forward for 3 different trials to choose from till they discovered she had an allergic reaction to the dye at the last CT scan and now all offers are withdrawn, hence this difficult choice. The consultant is pushing in case the window of opportunity passes and she gets too sick to tolerate chemo.

    Thinking of you too
