The pre-treatment steroids are making me put on weight, which I hate.  Can't be doing with having cancer AND being fat!!!

My next couple of treatments will be a small dose of (10 min) chemo + Immunotherapy.

So,  im wondering if I can get away with not having the 3 days of steroids that are recommended.

What are your thoughts?

  • Hi lovely , I don’t know the answer to your question but just wanted to send a hug , what do  the pre treatment steroids do ? Is it for the sickness or to just help your body to cope with treatment ? X

  • Harebellle if you do not want to take the steroids, then you need to speak to your medical team to make sure it is ok not to take them. They are recommended for a reason. I would think you have enough to worry about than putting on a little weight. Being well is more important at the moment, worry about your weight later xx

  • I know you're right Chelle!

Sometimes I focus on the trivial things. I think it helps takemy mind off the big things xx

    And I'm a bit vain ;)

  • Elly I think (but am not sure) they're to help with the sickness.  You take them the day before, the day during and the day after treatment.

I expect I should check with my Oncologist.  Xx

  • Sounds like a chat with the man with the plan might be a good idea x

  • Well, its that time of the month again.  Should I take them or not?  I'm already on prednisilone and my cheeks have blown up like a hamster.  So im not taking the pre-treatment steroids as well.

Im only having rhe Pemotrexed this time. ( They've stopped the immunotherapy. Angry) Thank yu NHS. Nice one!

So, I'm not loading my system wirh a drug,  for a trearment that isn't that strong and only takes 10 minutes

My way of thinking is, it's rhe equivalent of using a sledgehammer to crack a walnut.
