I was diagnosed with non-small cancer lung cancer with secondaries in my neck and upper spine, ribs and a couple of lymph nodes.
I was to have stereotactic radiotherapy for my neck (C7) but they found a couple of spots in the 2 vertebrae below. The radiation oncologist said it was too big an area for stereotactic radiotherapy. Yesterday I had my first session of radiotherapy on my neck and have 4 more sessions next week.
A couple of hours after my session yesterday, I experienced really achy lower shoulders and the back of my upper arms. I then had tingly fingers and my chest felt really heavy.
I was told to expect fatigue and maybe some redness, dryness on my neck. They symptoms I experienced were not mentioned.
Does anybody know whether these side effects are normal?
Hiya
i don’t think it’s a case of are these side effects normal, if theses symptoms are new to you I think you should give the emergency response line a call. Remember they are not just there for emergencies you can just call the number for advice. In you case you are experiencing some new symptoms and you need some advice so please give them a call, and please don’t wait to do it, you will feel much better when you have spoken to a health professional.
please update when you have called them
Hugs for now

hi Fitz I had 30 fractions in 2014 and my neck looked like a baboons bum, had tonsil cancer then, lots of e45 helped the redness goes away eventually I lost a saliva gland from it so a dry mouth still get that now iyears later I had a neck dissection too so doesn’t help with the scar tissue and now I’ve just had my mediastionscopy feels like I’m being strangled. Mine also itches a weird sensation cos my neck is numb on left side. But the fatigue boy did I feel that I remember being unable to walk and caught a bus to go about 50 yards where I was so washed out. But whatever be strong stay positive as I’m sure you are. “The strongest oak tree of the forest is not the one that is protected from the storm and hidden from the sun. It's the one that stands in the open where it is compelled to struggle for its existence against the winds and rains and the scorching sun.” Oh forget to mention use an electric razor apparently better for skin .
