Hello all. I am suffering from pain in my shoulder, shoulder blade, arm and armpit. I have been treated for bursitis in the shoulder. Have had steriod injection which did zero, physiotherapy, antiflamatory meds and massage with no improvement. I had a chest xray which showed nothing apparently. My question is can a chest xray miss a pancoast tumpur, should I at least ask for a review of my xray. My pain is severe and constant and I am becoming very anxious.
Hi Dee. I am sorry to hear you are in so much pain, and that the treatment you have received has not helped with the pain.
Can lung cancer be missed by X-ray? I have been on this site for many years, and I can tell you that yes it has been missed by people who were later diagnosed with lung cancer. This does not mean of course that you have lung cancer, but if you are still in pain then I would say you would need further investigation to find out exactly what is going on.
I would go back to your GP and say you are still in pain. Sometimes we have to be firm with the GP’s and I think this is one of those times. This could be nerve damage? Torn ligament? But further investigation is obviously needed, maybe an MRI.
Good luck x
Thank you for your reply. I have an apt with my gp tomorrow but I am really anxious that my fears will be dismissed once again. Don't quite know how to broach the subject of pancosst tumour with him as last time when I told him he dismissed me telling me that it is very rare. I'm scared.
I think it would be fair to ask for an MRI as the treatment you have had has not helped. MRI’s are not only for cancer diagnoses, but all types of tissue damage. It will be the best way to put your mind at rest x
Hi Dee if you go back to the Doc, stress the fact that the pain is constant. Is it also worse at night?
I originally had really bad shoulder and had a shoulder xray which they could see something on the edge of the xray. Which led to a chest xray.
Hope things go well and it turns s out to be ordinary wear and tear.
Either way I hope they sort out your pain.X
What kind of pain do you get with pancoasy tumor ... is it really bad.
I don't have a pancoast tumour but my tumour was encroaching on an area that pancoast tumours usually affect. Radiotherapy has sorted the pain for now.
I can only give you my experience, with my particular cancer pain.
It was Constant. It was worse at night.
I've had really bad pain from a tooth abscess in rhe past. It was horrendous pain, but with that type of non cancerous pain (or similar) inbetween the horrendous pain there would be the odd half hour where I was pain free.
With my cancer pain, which was affecting choulder nerves and in the bone, there was NO let up of the pain at all, even when taking strong painkillers.
