My mum's treatment may not be working

My beautiful 55 year old mum was diagnosed with stage 3 lung cancer in March this year. Eventually after 3 biopsies and and several rigid bronchoscopies they referred her to Immunotherapy (Pembrolizumab) every 3 weeks for 2 years. She has now had 4 treatments however her first scan came back that the tumour has 'marginally grown'. They also said she now has enlarged lymph glands in the centre of her chest and they are unsure as to whether this is a new cancer or an infection. What I can't seem to find out is if it is normal for the tumour to grow after only 4 treatments (3 at the time of the scan). Obviously I am panicking and going to the worst place but I am so frightened they are going to say that they are taking her off any treatment. Does anyone have any advice on whether it can take longer than 3 months before is starts shrinking?

  • Hi Toni

whilst this may be a little annoying at least your mums case will be considered by a team of specialist’s, that’s what happened in my case and it turned out well so I hope this is the same for your mum, it is usual for you to be given the outcome of the mdt very soon after the meeting it could even be the same day as it was in my case, I was informed over the phone. I didn’t mind being told over the phone but this isn’t always acceptable to everyone. Anyway fingers crossed, put it out of your mind for now and go find something to do that makes you happy.

I made cakes for the local nursery today, I took them along at break time the little ones loved them and they made me smile and I was encouraged by the little ones to join in their fun so I’ve had a great morning

    Hugs to both of you
