Hello,

So a bit of background, my mum had a diagnosis of stage 4 incurable lung cancer in March, She has a 5cm tumour in her lung, a 3.7cm tumour in her Pancreas there is a small area in her bowel and it has also spread to her adrenal glands.

We're told worst case less than 12 months,  best case 2 to 3 years.

Since diagnosis she has been really poorly, in lots of pain around her Pancreas so she had a morphine pump but has now been put on morphine tablet's of the same dose, they have prescribed her oramorph to take in between to combat the break through pain. Two weeks ago she was very yellow so was admitted to hospital with jaundice, they fitted a stent to her bile duct and she was allowed home after a 5 day stay in hospital.

She had her 1st Immunotherapy treatment at the end of April. She was extremely tired after which I expected but is there really any hope? She has lost lots of weight already, her appetite is like that of a small child and she is having to use a wheelchair as she can't walk as she is too weak.

  • Hi Legend1984

Nice to meet you but sorry it has to be here. Of course there is hope, if not your mum would not be receiving any treatment. I was diagnosed with stage four incurable lung cancer with spread to the left adrenal gland on September of 2018 with a prognosis of 3-6 months without treatment.

I too had lost a lot of weight and wasn’t one for big meals anyway so I changed to full fat milk, bought milkshake powder, full fat yogurts, mum just needs to try and eat little and often if she doesn’t want to eat, a lot of people on here used protein shakes and drinks from the GP to build strength.

you don’t say what cancer mum has, I have non small cell, so I had Pembrolazumab (Keytruda) as my first treatment. I finished my two years of it in September 2020  I didn’t really have any issues other than an itch but I must say after my first treatment on the Thursday afternoon I slept right through to the saturday but it did only happen the once.

So there is hope I’m 4 years on from a 3-6 month prognosis, doing well and I know there are others besides me, I hope your mums pain can be controlled to allow her to get her immunotherapy under way and she starts to feel better in herself, she doesn’t have to go far to start but try to get her walking even a couple of steps and building on that just to keep her mobility and muscle strength.

Let us know how you get on, best wishes to you both

    Julie
