Starting immunotherapy

Hi all,

I started immunotherapy on 18/2/22. I am concerned about isolation and mixing with my supporting family. We have been active child care for all 4 grand children and this has created a dilemma with my interaction with them. How can I support them in return whilst on this type of treatment. Is anyone else in a similar situation?

I have considered a COVID approach, meeting outdoors, masks etc. Weather permitting.

My treatment is three week intervals of immunotherapy and chemotherapy X 2. Day two and I feel fine. No serious effects. Early days I know.

  • Hi Pip, welcome to the group, but sorry you find yourself here. You will need to be careful whilst on treatment as you will pick up infections easily. I think the covid approach is a good idea. If you go to the home page on the site, you will find a coronavirus hub with information about cancer treatment and covid. You may find this helpful.

Hopefully someone who is on a similar treatment to you will come along and share their experience with you as well.

Hope you continue to feel well on the treatment x

  • Hello Pip, my husband has been given his treatment plan today which sounds the same as yours. Hope you're still getting on OK with it.  We hope to start within the next week.

He's picked up a bacterial infection so spent the day at A&E and he's feeling rubbish at the moment. Started antibiotics this evening so hopefully he'll feel better soon.

He's never ill so all this is a massive shock. Over the last 2 weeks, life has changed so drastically.

    Best wishes.

  • Hi... It is exactly 1 week today that my husband started his triple therapy. Its a roller coaster isn't it?... Good luck

  • Hi my husband had his first treatment 2 weeks ago...... first week went fine feeling cold but I suppose that’s to be expected.he hasn’t much of an appetite so is on anti sickness tablets......had a bad dose of diarrhoea last night Fingers crossedFingers crossed it’s passed. It’s been already said but the whole thing is a massive shock.

    Best wishes

  • Hi All, how are you getting on with the treatment? Hope you're well.

  • My husband has been really well the past few days... Very well infact.... He has treatment 2 next Monday...... But before this he has bloods pcr... And a telephone consultation with his oncologist on Friday..... This causes us both to feel anxious as we were not expecting it..... Thanks

  • From previous experience, I think that the oncologist will just want to check in with you as to how he's been doing before the next treatment and discuss the blood results. Good to hear he's been well.

My husband starts his treatment on Thursday.

  • Thanks.... Good luck to your husband on Thursday...... I found the  first time to be quite emotional......

  • I'm exactly the same. Probably a week behind you. The first five days were nausea fatigue and constipation. But last few days everything has settled down and I have been able to have something of a normal life. I still feel a bit breathless now and again and I produced a lot of mucas.  I am also booked in for bloods and consultation prior to the next treatment. I think the purpose of this is so they can tweak your treatment depending on how you have responded so far. Good luck.

  • Hi EmC

That's such bad luck to pick up an infection. Hope he's feeling better. I am paranoid about going out. So far if I do go out I will be wearing a mask inside and staying outside as much as possible. I am a musician and I have had to cancel work and concerts I had planned. I try and play now and again for the physio for my lungs but I am quite breathless a lot of the time. Overall my experience so far has probably been standard. I'm still taking the anti sickness tablets as this seems to be a constant side effect. Good luck.
