Hello, my partner has lung cancer surgery scheduled for this week and is now hesitant to do so. He has a tumour in left lung that has doubled in size in last month but they are unable to do biopsy due to location so have recommended removal of tumour plus nearby lymph nodes (so would be third of upper left lung ). He has heart failure (10 plus years) and now wants to back out of surgery and wants second opinion . As there is no biopsy no alternative treatments have been offered and doctors refuse to confirm it is cancer because of this . Has anyone else been in this position - surgery without biopsy or tried to get second opinion. ? Any experience much appreciated .  Thank you .

  • Hello

i had a suspicious nodule in my r lung , due to its location, it required surgery to try to biopsy it. Dr was fairly certain it was malignant but couldn’t diagnose definitely without biopsy. I agreed if frozen section was taken intra operatively was positive for cancer, I was happy to proceed with removal of affected lobe. I had r upper lobe removal on 30th December 2021 (nodule positive for adenocarcinoma ) making a good recovery , appt with surgeon tomorrow . ? A spell of chemo/radiotherapy . I know it’s scary, but these things can get out of hand quickly. Please try to get your partner to speak to one of the nurses involved in his care. He doesn’t know how long it may take to have a second opinion . Best wishes to you both

    Good morning lovely people.

2nd CT scan on 17 April this tear (R upper lobectomy Dec. 2022) recent scan has shown my middle lobe is compressed. Having bronchial lavage on the 23rd May. Letter to GP from consultant described it as possible middle lobe syndrome,  GP unsure what this is. Regular chest infections but one in December this year & a few weeks ago really floored me. Throat is quite raw & my voice is quite hoarse. Anyone able to suggest any ideas on what's going on with me ?

Thank you so much for your reply. He has spoken to a nurse today and that has allayed some of the fear.

  • Glad to hear it !! Wishing you both the very best !!
