Hi just wondering if anyone else has had a side effect from the Covid vaccine booster.
First vaccine, I had a bad reaction, dizzy felt terrible, risked it going home after 3 hours from the health center, spent that day and the next in bed.
Second vaccine did not bother me at all.
Now this Booster
My only treatment for lung cancer has been, 55GY Radiation Therapy, and I have never really coughed up any blood since my diagnoses, in March 2020, a very small smattering before diagnosis and a little when I had radiation induced Pneumonitis
My good news was a CT scan done in October 2021, was showing NED (no evidence of disease) my Oncolgist rang me on 09/11/2021, and told me my cancer may be cured, but he said I do have radiation scarring visible.
On Saturday at 12.30 on the 13/11/2021 I went for a Covid booster vaccine, that evening at 5.30 pm I started coughing blood up, not much but continual all night around 12 times in all, rang 111 Sunday morning, the first person said they were not qualified to give me advice, someone would ring me back, 6 hours later they rang back and advised me to go to A&E, which I did, after Triage then an Xray, a consultant said Cancer was not his field of medicine, and what did I want him to check for, I said maybe radiation induced pulmonary Fibrosis, as this was all I could think of that may cause pulmonary bleeding, (as my tumour is not there anymore to bleed) not sure if he knew what that was, I also said could he check my bloods for signs that I was in danger of an embolism, he then took four phials of my blood, for testing, after an hour or so he came back and said my bloods were showing signs, I was in slight danger of an embolism, and he was referring me for Ambulatory care next day at another hospital, they rang me next morning, and so I went to this Hospital, after triage and a Corona virus test ECG etc, 6 or 7 hours later I saw a consultant he said he would check with his colleagues if he could discharge me, said it would either be that or I would be taken through a load more tests and be there for hours more, he said my bloods were just above normal, they then discharged me luckily, he also said they have to way up the risks of the vaccine compared to its protective effect
It may not be the vaccine but something has done this, as my bloods were Ok before my CT scan.
Reported it on the Corona virus Yellow card scheme as there have been quite a few cases of pulmonary and other embolism happening, post vaccine, it appears, Astra Zenica is the main vaccine showing incidence, much less is the Pfizer vaccine.
Bit ironic this after being informed of my NED scan and this occurring a few days later.
Told a Cancer Lung nurse, she just said if it happens again I should ring them.
Hi BGJ first of all many congratulations on the NED that is just wonderful news.
Sorry that you had this incident after the Covid booster. That must of been very scary coughing up blood. The treatment that you received in A&E sounds absolutely shocking. I wouldn't have faith in any doctor who asked me what I him to check for. I think the lung nurse is the best way forward, if this were to happen again. Hopefully that is the end of it, and it will not be repeated x
Hi Chelle thank you for your reply, and your congradulation for NED, still find this hard to believe as was done by telephone, I am awaiting the report.
Yes the A&E consultants knowledge was obviously lacking, at least he should have gone through tests for reactions to the covid vaccination side effects Gov uk public Health is there for them to read as is NHS advice, yes this was a traumatic experience, it would have been far worse without me being informed of the NED as I have no tumour to bleed, I have found A&E consultants lacking in having any knowledge of a cancer diagnosis, as visited about 8 months ago after coughing a little blood, ended up debating what stage of Lung Cancer I had with a consultant, my diagnosis is T2a, N0, M0, stage 1b Lung Cancer, he insisted I had stage 2, a nurse put him right eventually, I am sorry to say my experience of the Lung nurse team of my area, has been extremely poor, having realised it was so difficult to speak to them, I just gave up, ages ago and went to A&E after first ringing 111, been to A&E on three occasions since my diagnosis in March 2020, this event occurred on Saturday, A&E on Sunday and then ambulatory care all day Monday, the Lung nurses are only available 9am til 5pm Monday to Friday, and so there is no point in ringing them on a weekend anyway, until I informed them of this recent event this week, it has always been an answer machine, this week I did get straight through though, the nurse just advised me to ring again if it happens again I asked her to inform my Oncologist.
So still not very helpful, I do appreciate they have had Covid to deal with, and my timing for diagnosis was a bit untimely due to it being in March 2020, just as lockdown began.
Thanks again for your reply Chelle.
