Hi everyone, does anyone out there have any experience or advice about delaying or postponing a combined treatment cycle? My husband who has inoperable stage 4 lung cancer is due a cycle on 2nd December which we weren’t expecting and we have booked a self catering break from 3rd to 18th as we haven’t been away for so long and have cancelled three breaks already following his diagnosis in June of this year. So as the treatment virtually wipes him out for 10-12 days we have talked about postponing it so he can enjoy this break but then he doesn’t want to have the treatment right before Christmas either!!!
Is there any serious negative effects to delaying? His first cycle resulted in a severe liver reaction and his second cycle was delayed for twelve weeks so we are kind of thinking that if the consultant/treatment can be delayed for that reason there is not much harm in him choosing to postpone this one for four/six weeks. Any comments welcomed.

Hi Grasan, what a dilemma. I can completely understand why you would want your husband to postpone so you can both enjoy a break away. The truth being told, only your oncologist can say whether it is ok to delay treatment, and it might well be that he will agree with you and say the holiday will do you both good. But I do think it would be best to get their advice first.
Fingers crossed you get to go away. Take care x
Thanks Chelle
We’ve decided (after much discussion) to go ahead with the treatment cycle and have invited my best friend to join us on the holiday (UK). She is happy to do the driving as my husband usually doesn’t feel well enough to drive for a few days after treatment. Also he is happy that if he just wants to sit around or sleep then I’ve got company!!! His bloods are still being checked weekly due to previous liver toxicity so it could be that his treatment gets cancelled anyway.

So after all our discussion about whether or not to go ahead with this treatment cycle the decision was taken out of our hands as Barry’s white blood cell count is too low for treatment to go ahead. He’s now booked in for 30th December, blood results permitting.
We are going for our break and looking forward to having a “side effect” free Christmas with our two daughters….. staying very very careful so that Barry doesn’t pick up any kind of virus or infection.
