Hi All,
My mum has stage 4 terminal metastatic lung cancer and has been receiving immunotherapy every 3 weeks since March. She has had 2 CT scans that are showing the cancer is being controlled (we know it can't be cured).
Mum was due a session of immunotherapy today but when she got to the hospital she was told they were unable to do it as they were concerned about her kidneys. Has anybody else got experience of this? She has to go for a blood test next week which will be followed by an appointment with the oncologist on the same day.
After each session she is becoming weaker and more frail, but they have always done it. Following her last session three weeks ago she has had really bad sickness and diahorrea which just isn't going, which is why I believe the hospital are reluctant to do the treatment today. They have mentioned steroid injections. Does anyone know if this is likely to just be a blip and that she may well be able to proceed with further immunotherapy sessions in the future.
Any guidance and advice will be much appreciated.
Thank you
Claire
Hi Claire
I had the same issue, my kidneys didnt like the chemo albeit it was wirking and so this was stopped after 3 sessions. I later had chemo and same thing but it does leep working after you stop. I was told if stoped youcant restart but so far ive remained stable and the focushas been on getting kidneys as strong as possible so when the time comes, I can have another chemo. Hope that helps x
Hi Daisy_21,
Mum has had 7 sessions, her's are every three weeks and she has a CT scan after every three sessions. It has been going so well, and the oncologist said it was controlling the cancer well, but now this blip has got mum scared as immunotherapy was the only option for her.
Good luck to your husband and I hope the immunotherapy is effective for him x
Going through the exact same thing today with my mum but her liver / treatment suppose to be tomo thursday/ she is on her way to the hospital now to get steroids / she will have to take them / she then has a blood test on Friday & Monday and oncology next week … my mum Just called me now, my mum is also having chemo aswell, I’m at work an my heart has just been ripped out of my chest once again, x
hope your mum will be ok x
Oh, I can completely empathise with you. My mum is so scared, and she has been advised that the steroids are going to trigger major anxiety - it's all just so tragic. Nobody should have to suffer what they are going through. All we can do is remain a constant unconditional pillar of love and support and remain strong when we are with them. (Although we crumble when back home).
My thoughts and prayers are with you and your mum also.

I am so sorry you are experiencing this : this is what’s happned tonight x
so mum went picked up steroids from hospital/ they said she will not be allowed treatment for 2 weeks while she on the weeks corse of tablets/ they think it might be the dosage of immunotherapy keytruda which my mum Has every 21 days / she’s to have blood test on Friday and Monday / and oncologist on Thursday next week To discuss/ my mums scans have all shown shrinkage in her lung cancer and the spotting on her adrenal gland/. They did say to mum she may have to have the immunotherapy spilt in to 2 visits on 2 days/ /. I don’t know what else/ anything else I Say or suggest would be second guessing so yet again it’s the unknown untill Next week and how my mum blood resists are xx
please let me kno how your mum gets ok x thinking of you xx this is so touch and awful for anyone experiencing this xxxx. God bless xx lots of love x
Our mums both seem to be at a similar stage in their treatment. My mum also has shadows on her adrenal glands. She's now on 8 steroid tablets a day. She has a blood test on Tuesday next week and a face to face with her oncologist on Wednesday to discuss the way forward with treatment, he has mentored that she may not be able to go back on the immunotherapy. Her cancer is too advanced for chemo so we are relying on the immunotherapy. The oncologist has always said it won't cure it will only control, but if they stop this treatment then it will just be palliative care. She's scared which is so understandable when you're faced with your mortality.
I hope your mums oncologist appointment goes well. I'll let you know how my mum gets on. Thank you for telling me your situation and I appreciate your interest in my mum.
X
Please let me kno how it goes with your mum’s oncologist, I don’t even kno what’s going to happen to my mum as she been fine no issues / just tierd from the chemo a few days, I can’t even second guess if they might do this or that ,
again it’s the waiting till next week, xxx. will they won’t they carry on treatment, xx I would like to hear if this has happned to anyone else and what advice they can give xx
lots of love x
