So for 18 months I've had 12 chemos of Carboplatin and Etoposide with 5 Radiotherapys in between, today I saw Oncologist to be told cancer on lung mote or less stable , but liver lesions a bit worse, chemo no longer working, he suggested trying Topotecan in tablet form instead of intravenous, he said also he would discuss with colleague any trials available that may help, and further that the Royal Marsden in London may have an immunotherapy that I could try. So not good news but hopefully some options to try. My question is, has anyone on here with grade 4 small cell been in this position, and if so what did they do, and did it improve their situation? Thanks for reading and any replies.
Hi Shedman I am so sorry to hear your news. I am on a slightly different journey to you, but I didn't want your post going un noticed as the group is quite busy at the moment.
What I can tell you is that I have seen many people in this group have very good results with immunotherapy. Also my mum was treated at the Royal Marsden and I know what excellent care she received there.
It is always good to have options on the back burner. Hopefully someone else will be along soon to chat with you.
Hi Shedman like Chelle my story is different however I just thought I’d let you know that I used to follow a Facebook forum that included the US and there was a a lady there who has SCLC and she was treated with radiotherapy I believe anyway she is several years in and seems to be doing well. There is hope and many treatments and I hope you find the way that will work for you
Thank you Chellesimo and nel107 for your replies, I do know there is no cure for what I have, only treatments and my oncologist in my opinion is very good, so far I'm really quite fit and at 5 feet eight and 12st, 4 pounds, with no aches and pains apart from a bit of breathlessness if I over exert myself, cancer aside, you,d never guess I was ill to look at me so I'm told. Onco will ring me next Tues or wed. to decide where to go from here.
Have read of some in US that have stayed alive with what I have for up to 10 years, that would be nice, must stay Positive.
Hi Shedman
yes its often said that the mental game is a big part of it.
staying positive is the way but don’t beat yourself up when you do feel down especially as treatments change and Move along - it happens to us all but rest in the knowledge that it will pass
Just wondering if it's ok to take a dessert spoonful of codliver oil each day when having Etoposide and Carboplatin chemo, I did ask the nurse, she said she'd find out , but never got back to me. I've been taking cod oil each day for about forty years.Maybe a nurse practitioner will read this and provide an answer.
Hi Shedman, there is an Ask a Nurse page where you can ask this question. Hope this helps.
