My husband had his biopsy yesterday and hopefully we will get his results after the lung meeting tomorrow or Friday. I am so worried... This nightmare as been going on since the end of Oct , Firstly he was told he had a type of blood cancer then they said he hadn't. After a CT scan they found a large blood clot in each lung and he went onto blood thinning injections. unfortunetly they also saw a mass in his right lower lobe.

He's now had Lung function test, pet scan and finally biopsy. I don't know how we've got through these last few weeks and l really don't know how we'll handle tomorrow and Friday.

He hasn't seen a specialist since this all started everything is talked about on a Thursday at the Lung Meeting then they call us and tell us the results. Sometimes we have had to wait over 10 days to get our phone call. I honestly feel covid as slowed things down or is this normal procedure.

I wasn't worried because l didn't think he had symptoms of lung cancer. But the one thing l keep seeing is about a croaky voice and he as had one for months. I'm scared because the people who have mentioned it seem to have had the worse out come.

  • Hi redballoon.  This really is a horrible journey, and these early days are the worst. But you are right, since covid has reared its ugly head, things are taking longer, and a lot of appointments are over the phone. It’s not necessarily the scans that are taking the time, but the reporting on these scans and tests are behind, and they are on catchup. There are so many staff that have been re deployed, and even more that are self isolating.  Covid has had a real impact on all aspects of our wonderful NHS.  The good thing is that all of your husbands tests are now complete, including his biopsy, so they will be able to get the right treatment plan for him. Please don’t worry about the croaky voice, there can be so many reasons for this. I have had a camera down to my voice box, because not only is my voice croaky, but completely fails me at times. It turns out that the acid from my stomach has burnt my vocal chords. And I really do not suffer with acid reflux. I wish your husband all the very best for Friday.  Deep breaths, one day at a time, one step at a time. X

  • Hi red balloon we’re in the same boat as you at the min. My mum was diagnosed on 24th of November with NSCLC after a chest x ray ( which was clear!) followed by a lung biopsy. She’s had to have a lung function test, PET scan ( to see if it’s spread) and she’s booked in for a echo tomorrow. We will finally get her results to tell us if it’s spread, what stage etc 23rd December ( which I’m completely dreading)

when I first found out her diagnosis I cried for days, couldn’t eat, was gagging on food, couldn’t sleep. I tell you the waiting is awful , I wouldn’t want to wish it on my worst enemy. My mum hasn’t seen a oncologist yet only a respiratory registrar.

my mum didn’t have a croaky voice we just noticed she was losing weight and very tired all the time so we booked her in at the doctors for a routine blood test and found out she was anemic HB 68 .
I wish you and your husband all the best for tomorrow and Friday xx
