Hi everyone..I have recently been told by my CNS ,that i have a malignant growth in the start of my intestine, and suspected metastasis in my liver. The plan is apparently to keep a watching brief on how this develops. Has anyone had a similar diagnosis? My familly are understandably worried and want me to talk to a private specialist, with a view to having ciber knife treatment.I have a feeling that this would be a waste of time .What should i do ? Advice please.Yours PDR

  • I am sorry to hear that. I am not quite in the same situation but have breast cancer (TNBC) that has spread to the liver. My original treatment was microwave ablation of the liver tumour with quarterly scans. By the first scan it had grown back. I am now back on systemic treatment.

  • I have had two spreads to the liver from bowel cancer. Is the watching brief in relation to the possible liver mets? I had a bowel resection in 2019, then discovered liver mets in 2022. I had a liver resection in 2022, unfortunately, further mets popped up in less than 6 months. I’m now having chemotherapy, but unlikely to get a cure. Wishing you lots of luck.

  • Hi, what's the watching brief on the liver? Have they not put possible plan in place for any of this? I've secondary liver cancer from unknown primary. Hospital referring me for 2nd opinion but whilst that is happening they keeping eye on things via blood tests which checks liver function & tumours.

  • Thanks for your reply. So far i have no plan in place. All i know is that I have suspected multiple mets in my liver Which were found on scans when looking for a blockage in the upper intestine. This was a malignant growth. From your comments, I think it would pay to have a second opinion, and regular blood tests. Thanks again for your help.PDR.

  • Thanks for your reply.I am completely in the dark about this watching brief. After seeing yours, and the other responses,i am going to make an appointment to see if can at least have a regular blood test to monitor the liver. Thanks again, and i hope your not finding the chemo too tough.Fingers crossed for you.

  • Thanks for your reply. As a newbie i had to find out what systematic treatment was, and I hope it is successful for you.I am finding the community comments very helpful. It came as a surprise to me, and I already have a good Idea about where I'm going on the cancer journey..Thanks again.PDR

  • hello GNG Thanks to your cmments,i made an apointment with my GP. She has now found out more about my diagnosis, andhas put me on a similar path to yours.

I now know that i have ampulary cancer with mutiple  mets in the liver, When pressed she said to think in months rather than years. This was later confirmed by a second opinion.

I hope all is as possible with you. all the best..PDR.
