I have secondary liver cancer.  My largest rumour is 8cm.  I get general discomfort on and off around my abdomen and to the right side of my chest especially.  This seems worse after eating. Does anyone else experience this or know why it happens?

  • Hello Balmy

I am sorry to see that you have been diagnosed with secondary liver cancer.

It must be unpleasant to experience discomfort around your abdomen and chest that gets worse after eating. I wonder if this might be something to discuss with your CNS who would be able to reassure you whether this is something that others experience or whether it is something that would need checking out further? This would also be perhaps a time to discuss whether any pain relief or something else would help?

I often called my CNS during my cancer treatments and they never minded and often a little reassurance was all that was needed. When I did need some treatment they were able to discuss with the oncologist and get a prescription sorted.

  • Hi Balmy did you speak to anyone and get some help? I have secondary liver cancer, but my largest tumour was only 5-6cms and didn’t give me any problems. I didn’t know it was there until a routine bowel screening picked it up. I had a resection last September. I assume you have a treatment plan? Let us know how you’re getting on.

  • Hello, I have just been diagnosed with lung cancer and secondary liver cancer. It is the discomfort after eating that bothers me the most. I am trying to talk to a nurse specialist  to find out how to mitigate the effects by diet or volume of food or whatever Is needed, it seems worse lying down, I spent half of last night in my recliner chair as it seemed to ease the discomfort, although it isn't helping much at this moment.

  • I’m sure I read a post a while ago about discomfort, or pain after eating. I’ll try to find it. My largest tumours in the liver were in the left lobe, so I’m not sure if that makes any difference. I hope you get some help soon.

  • There is a one off liver cancer group at Maggie's in Newcastle on Wednesday, it is run by a couple of spealists from the Freeman hospital.  I hope to glean some information then. I am also in contact with my new nurse specialist. I think the answer is food volume. I am feeling the best I have felt in a long, long time today but then I haven't had my main meal yet. Here's hoping it slides down gently.
