I have bladder cancer which spread to the lymph nodes, liver and lungs. All tumours shrunk after chemotherapy. Then went on the Atlantis trial drug rucaperib which has not worked. I start on the immunotherapy drug Pembrolizumab on Tuesday because the liver tumour has doubled, although bladder and lungs are stable. Anyone else on this treatment?
Hi ,
I have been watching the benefits of immunotherapy over recent years . It’s more advanced in America for bowel cancer and only surfacing for the UK in trails mainly . I have no knowledge for bladder but my friend is taking it for lung cancer that has spread to multiple sites . She has had a fantastic response , particularly in her liver and primary tumour . They were no longer visible after four cycles . She has had very few side effects . It has been difficult to get information due the newness of the process but I found looking at patients with melanoma helpful as they seem to be further down the road .
She has encountered a problem with her kidneys but a steroid ( low dose) has resolved this . Compared to my mum’s side effects of chemo it’s been a good treatment for her .
The oncologist is delighted with her scans . After a year she has had a little secondary resistance in one area but a short dose of radiotherapy has dealt with it . Her primary tumour is now scar tissue , her sternum ( which had fractured) has repaired as has a deposit in her hip , spleen and liver .
Her oncologist feels it’s moving in the right direction .
All the best with your treatment . Here’s to significant shrinkage .
