I'm devastated as my mum has just been diagnosed with cancer which started in her kidney and spread to her liver and pelvic bone. She was misdiagnosed 3 weeks ago with acute kidney infection and a virus. She's 81 and been so fit and heal they so it's a complete shock. We are waiting to hear from the hospital as she needs to have a biopsy done on her liver so they then can assess stage and treatment plan but the waiting is just awful.
Hi and welcome to the online community
I'm sorry to hear that your mum has recently been diagnosed with kidney cancer which has found to have spread.
Waiting for results, tests, etc is very hard and most people find that once the treatment plan is in place they feel a lot more in control. This group will be good for asking questions about treatment and sharing experiences with others who have secondary liver cancer.
I think you'd also benefit from joining the family and friends group where you can share your feelings and get support. To join just click on the link I've created and then choose 'join this group' on the page that opens. You could then introduce yourself or reply to existing posts.
When you have a minute it would be really useful if could pop something about your mum's journey so far into your profile as it helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Edit Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
Sending a supportive ((hug))
Hi Lindseylou - similar experience with my Mum. She’s a bit older (87) but until a few days ago she seemed healthy, quite active and living independently in her bungalow. Following a diagnosis of urine infection, then a few falls at home, Mum was taken to hospital for tests. Today they have diagnosed secondary liver cancer.
The doctor doesn’t want to perform a biopsy or suggest chemotherapy due to her age. She’s also now very weak and seems very vague- a different person.
So we are looking at palliative care at home, but right now I’m not sure what that will mean.
i know how you must be feeling- I’m here if you want to talk (or vent)!
Take care xxx
