I haven't been on the forum since last August. Mum had stage 3 bowel cancer and had surgery on 17th August 2019. All went well but she wasn't strong enough for chemo or any radiotherapy. So although they hoped to have got all it was in lymph nodes which were removed. The surgeons couldn't guarantee that it hadn't gone anywhere else. CT scan 12 month later and discovered two tumours on liver inoperable. So we are waiting to see an oncologist to discuss what happens if anything next. Scared as not knowing what to expect us very difficult
Sorry to hear about your mum. My husband had his kidney removed in July and has just been told he had secondary liver cancer. They are talking about targeted therapy but he is too weak at the moment to start this. I will need to read up on it to understand better. I am trying to keep him positive but the delay in getting treatment or even information is soul destroying. I am waiting on a McMillan nurse ringing to discuss. One day at a time is the only sane way to keep going. Make sure you look after yourself.
Thank you for your reply. I'm so sorry to hear about your husband. I find the waiting for information and management plan incredibly hard. It's not knowing and then as you say reading up on this and every body journey seems different. My thoughts are with you. One day at a time like you say is the only thing to do . You also look after yourself

I have had secondary liver cancer with multiple mets for just over a year and have done really well on targeted therapy. Once you get a treatment plan in place life becomes so much more positive. Obviously everyone's situation is different, but I have found the side effects quite doable and the treatment has been keeping my cancer from progressing for the moment. In my case surgery or ablation were not an option but I know this sometimes can be done. I hope you get some clear plan of treatment soon which should answer a lot of your worries. x
Mum can't have surgery and has COPD. . She is only very slight and struggles with her breathing. The bowel consultant who told us about the two tumours on her liver said the oncologist will talk to us 're lots and cons of tablet from chemo. She is also suffering with shoulder and neck pain and headaches daily. Lots going on at the moment. It's good to hear that you are doing well with your mets that gives me some hope. Mum is 82 years old . Very independent and hates the thought of relying on me to much. Stubborn she is proper old school. My best friend x

Sadly mum can't have any chemo, targeted etc. The consultant felt to try chemo would end her life very quickly. Therefore just enhanced care (palliative). Pain management when needed. She also has very poor kidney function. Have told us 6 months approximately. Has anyone any experience of not having treatment and the impact it will have on her. Currently she is mobile and able to get about but has slowed down a lot the last two weeks any help advice would be very welckme. The difficulty is although my 60 year old brother lives with her he is a vulnerable adult who has depression and does not engage in everyday activities

My husband can’t have any treatment. He is back in hospital due to infection and low blood count. He sleeps a lot and struggles to walk more than a few steps. He can’t eat anything and survives on protein shakes. We are hoping he comes home soon. He is not in any pain yet. It’s very hard watching him get sicker but we text as much as we can. We will have palliative care when he is home. I don’t know what the next few weeks will be like. I can only deal with one day at time. I hope you’re mum keeps as strong as possible for as long as she can. My thoughts are with you and your brother.
