Hi...we just found out last week my dad's oesophagus cancer has spread to his liver. He has severe COPD so is already on oxygen 16 hrs a day so unfortunately he can't receive treatment.  I have cried constantly today and have a massive headache. Yesterday I felt so angry. I dont know what to do or how to handle the news. Sorry I know I'm feeling sorry for myself

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I'm sorry to read that you have recently discovered that your dad's oesophagus cancer has spread to his liver and it's perfectly natural to feel like you do.

As the online community is divided up into different support groups, I'm going to recommend that you join the oesophageal cancer group and also the secondary liver cancer group as you'll then connect directly with others who have the same diagnosis as your dad.

I think you'd also benefit from joining either the carers only group, if you are your dad's carer, or the family and friends group if you're not. Both groups are safe and supportive places to share your worries and emotions.

To join these groups, just click on the links I've provided which will take you directly to the group. You can then join and start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with exiting conversations by clicking on 'reply.

It would be great if you could pop something about your dad's diagnosis and treatment so far into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

  • Thankyou so much for your reply. I have joined the other groups you have suggested. Ty
