Hello everyone,
I’m hoping to get some advice and hear about other people’s experiences, as my dad has recently and unexpectedly been diagnosed with liver cancer. Unfortunately, it appears to have spread to surrounding organs, meaning the cancer is incurable. We’ve been told that he may only have a few months left, and that any treatment would be aimed at slowing the progression of the cancer and managing his symptoms rather than curing it.
It’s incredibly difficult news for us as a family, and we’re still trying to process and come to terms with everything.
I wanted to hear from anyone who has been through a similar experience. What have your experiences been with chemotherapy and radiotherapy in this situation? Did you feel the benefits outweighed the side effects? Alternatively, has anyone chosen to focus solely on palliative care and keeping their loved one comfortable, rather than pursuing cancer treatment?
I’d also really appreciate any advice on what to expect as the illness progresses, including potential symptoms in the later stages and how best to manage them. Our biggest priority is to make sure Dad is as comfortable and pain-free as possible, while ensuring he has the best quality of life for whatever time he has left.
I know everyone’s experience is different, but hearing from others who have been through something similar would mean a lot to us as we navigate this incredibly difficult time.
Thank you. ️
