Hi Im 64 and have one daughter and four grandchildren, over the last month i have been for more xrays, scan, cameras etc than i knew existed.

I got the results of all this on apr 27th when i went to see the Dr in Wrexham, he told me I had primary liver cancer which is complicated by my diabetes which has cause cirrhosis of the liver.

I am being referred to Birmingham hospital, date to still be confirmed, to see specialist, who will discuss where we go from here. Have been told there are three surgical options and a tablet options as they are not sure if liver would be able to cope with surgery but this has yet to be decided.

Im not a negative person but this has thrown me in a whirlwind i dont know how to think, to act, where i go from here. Giving up is not an option as im usually the rock everyone comes to for help.

If i had more information then maybe i could get my head round things, how do you cope and move forward, suggestions would be much appreciated.

Think this is enough waffle from me just seen the time think i will try and get some sleep nite

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I'm sorry to read that you have just been diagnosed with liver cancer and I completely understand the shock you'll be feeling.

I've had different types of cancer to you, so can't help with information about liver cancer, but you might find this from Macmillan useful to look through.

How to cope mentally is probably the same for all cancers and I found it helpful just to concentrate on whatever test or treatment I was having at that moment and not think about things that might never happen. I also spent as much time as possible doing things that I enjoy to take my mind of the 'what ifs'. Lots of people find mindfulness really helpful and, if this is something that you are interested in, clicking here will give you more information.

It would be great if you could pop something about your diagnosis and tests so far into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

Finally, someone much wiser than me once said that "worrying won't change the outcome but it will ruin the present" so I try to follow that advice.
