Hi everyone.
My husband was diagnosed with HCC about 12 months ago and was given a 6-12 month time scale.
Since the diagnosis, in august  he had to have a leg amputated which as you can imagine was awful but has really impacted his quality of life as I can’t get him in or out of the car to get him out of the house.
Since his discharge from hospital apart from district nurses for a few weeks for the amputation site, we have had no cancer support.  Our local cancer department have handed him back to the doctors  at our surgery as we don’t need them on a regular basis!
I’m felt like they had pulled the rug from under me.   And to top it all I was only given the information about macmillan and what they can do  yesterday by a lady from a carers capacity.
I feel isolated and let down.  I don’t know what to expect as he gets worse as he has deteriorated over the last few days.

  • Hi

I'm sorry to read how much you and your husband have been through and are still going through.

As you say your husband has now been discharged from the hospital back into the care of his GP, his GP now takes over responsibility for any care he requires. This also includes referring him to organisations like Macmillan for a nurse to be assigned to him if necessary.

You mentioned that your husband has deteriorated over the last few days and, as we now have a long bank holiday, you should probably ring NHS111 today so that they can get a doctor to see your husband if necessary.

    Sending (((hugs)))

  • Thankyou for your reply.

The doctor came out on Thursday after I had a meltdown on the phone to my doctor’s surgery.  He has fluid in the stomach so tablets for that.

it’s been a difficult journey so far! feeling very isolated and alone.  Although I have awesome daughters they can’t give me the answers I need.   They help with his care when I need a break which is a saviour in itself.
