Secondary liver cancer

Hi everyone

I was just wondering if anyone could offer me some advice, or share their experience. I had bowel cancer which was removed surgically in November 2019. My recent routine scan has shown liver cancer. The hospital believe it has been growing since my bowel cancer was present. I am scared. They are telling me that if the can perform a liver resection, I will possibly have a 40% chance of cure. Does anyone here have any experience? I ll admit I’m a bit scared.

  • Hi Jools, my father has just been diagnosed with secondary liver cancer, spreading from his bile duct. Operations are out of the question as he has tumours in 2 opposite segments of his liver. He is dreading chemo, which starts next week. He is also scared. So am I. We're living in France and don't really know what to expect. Communication has been poor. Sending you a hug and best wishes, stay strong x

  • I’m so sorry to hear about your dad. I can’t imagine how scary it must be when you’re going through cancer abroad. The terminology used is so difficult to understand. Sending you both big virtual hugs.

  • Hi again! I don’t have any advice I’m afraid, but wanted to try and bump you up the thread. I do hope that something has changed since your last post. I’ve been lucky in that my scans are now both bFingers crossedked. I’m keeping everything crossed that the chemo isn’t as bad as you feared. Fingers crossed

  • Thanks Jools, the first chemo session went well and he hasn't really had any ill effects other than some loss of appetite. We've contacted an English speaking cancer support group based throughout France, great to know there's someone close by with advise who can help with translation etc.

I'm keeping everything crossed for you x

  • That’s really good news. I’m so pleased the chemo went better than you and your dad expected. Brilliant that you now have some support. I’ve got my pet scan tomorrow. I be had one before, so not worried about the process. The hospital is only around 50 miles away, but Devon roads are busy and not up to the amount of traffic, so could take over two hours to get there. Not a problem, except I’m expected to drink at least a litre of water before the appointment! I really hope things continue to go well for your dad.

  • Hi Jools, hope things are going well for you. Dad is still doing well and remains positive. I'm originally from Devon! Sidmouth. So I know about the country lanes. Keeping fingers crossed for you x

  • Oh wow Sidmouth! I adopted a donkey at their sanctuary a few years ago. I have a visit planned as soon as I’m able to go. Now waiting for my next appointment to discuss the scan results. Like most of us it’s the waiting that makes the whole situation so stressful. Sending you and your family lots of hugs.

  • And ours back to you x Hugging
