I had a TACE done 4 weeks ago. They said i would be unwell for 1 week. I was very unwell for 1st week and then felt absolutely fine. I was thrilled and started going for my daily runs and went back to work. Was absolutely great  for the week and then got the most awful stabbing pains in my liver. Ended up going back to hospital and they did a CT scan, bloods and chest xray  . All came back ok.. Since then i am getting random pains in my liver which radiate round to my back. Other times its stomach cramps. Trying to stay positive and not let it get me down but i am struggling. Seems to be so little information around about after effects of TACE. I was hoping my CNS would phone me this week so i could ask her  but she hasn't phoned. Can anyone else give me some feedback about their side effects from TACE.

  • Hi and welcome to the Online Community. I'm from a different group and haven't have this procedure so I can't comment but I'm attaching a link to Chemoembolisation TACE on the Macmillan site which do mention pain in the upper right side of the abdomen.

I'd also do what we've all done, keep trying to contact your CNS - mine's brilliant, normally comes back within hours (not weekends) but I read elsewhere they're not so good.

Sending you all the best for getting back to normal. B xx

  • Thank you for that link. I think I am panicking every time i get pains as I think something may have gone wrong. I think I probably need to talk to a counselor and air some of my worries. Getting this diagnosis has hit me hard and i'm normally such a positive person but it s a struggle at the moment. I feel once I can get back to my running my mental state will be much improved. xx
