Hi, I wanted to share my story so far. I’ve had pain in my upper right quadrants which moved to my back and shoulder for a year and a half now. I consulted my go last April and we initially thought it may be a gallbladder issue. An ultrasound scan showed that gallbladder was fine but something (a mass/lesion/tumour) was spotted that required a closer look. Due to COVID I waited until October to have a ct scan of my pelvic area. Go phoned with results to say it looked like secondary liver cancer and thinking was primary melanoma. This was all without any further diagnostics. An MRI was then arranged to get a closer look. An MDT meeting took place and I was referred to dermatology for a full skin examination. Nothing obvious was found and they questioned why melanoma was mentioned. Assumed it was because of a previous melanoma. Next step was liver biopsies taken in January. Tumour is 2cm and Theo auto of it made biopsies challenging. They managed to get 3 and the results were no melanoma and no cancer found. WS told that it was very difficult to get a biopsy in the right area.  Referred back to liver consultants.

had my appt with liver consultants today. Now thinking primary liver tumour. Wants another mri to check if the tumour size has increased. They don’t think my pain is related to the tumour and feel that my liver is under pressure so been asked to go on zero fat diet for 2 weeks to see if there is an improvement in pain???

2 treatments discussed today once the mri results are back. Had all blood test related to liver today too. Looking at chemo embolization or ablation. Wondered if anyone has had a similar journey and what to expect. Not sure what treatment would be best  so any info would be amazing.

thank you

  • Hi and a very warm welcome to the online community

It sounds like you've been on quite a journey to reach your liver cancer diagnosis.

I didn't have liver cancer, although I have had a melanoma diagnosis, but I noticed that no one had responded to your post so far. By replying to you it will 'bump' your post back to the top of the discussions list.

While you're waiting for replies you could use the search facility in the group to look for previous posts which mention chemoembolisation or ablation. I've linked those words to information Macmillan has produced.

Wishing you all the best with whichever treatment you decide to have.
