In June last year, an incidental liver lesion was found on my liver measuring 8cm. Fast forward multiple scans and 2 biopsies and the QE in Birmingham have confirmed a HCC. The latest MRI in December showed it was 9cm.
I am awaiting a further MRI and CT scan over the next few days to ensure there is no spread. The plan, if there is no spread, is a surgical resection.
I have met with the hospital cancer nurses who have been helpful, but this news is very fresh and I'm quite honestly terrified.
I am 37 years old and have a wonderful husband and two beautiful boys who are 10 and 11...they don't know yet and I'm unsure if to tell them. I am terrified of not being around for them.
I also have liver steatosis and I'm worried that this will make the surgery more complex or even not possible to do.
I feel very alone and I'm just wondering how everyone managed the first few weeks after diagnosis.
Thank you
Hi LauBee and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.
I’m Anne, one of the Community Champions here on the Online Community and, although I'm not a member of this group, I noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet. Responding to you will 'bump' it back to the top of the discussion list again.
It sounds like you've got a lot going on right now so it's no surprise that you're feeling as you do. Most people find that once they know what the treatment plan is they feel more in control and less frightened.
Obviously you know your children best but you might find this information from Macmillan on talking to children and teenagers helpful.
While you're waiting for replies, it would be great if you could put something about your diagnosis into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
