Liver

Hi All.

I hope all reading this is safe and well.

My father had a 4.4cm tumour in his liver in 2019. The entire left side of his liver was removed robotically in December 2019. His histology report confirmed stage 1 HCC (pT1a) and clear margins. This was great news and no cancer cells remained and there would be no further treatment.

10 months later, following a CT scan, he received a call advising there is a growth on the resection cut.

My father has had a fatty liver for the past 30 years, so the liver is very cirrhotic.

We are shocked and surprised that this could come back so soon, especially after being given the all clear only 10 months ago.

Has anyone else experienced this? We are hoping the 'growth' is just a build up of scar tissue given that's it's on the resection cut and history of cirrhosis.

I hope the above makes sense.

Thanks

  • As you say, it's possible that the growth is benign. I had a liver resection that was diverted mid-operation because they spotted another lump and took that one out instead. Under the microscope however it was shown not to be cancerous.
