My hubby who has just turned 50 had the diagnosis yesterday although we knew it was cancer from his scans etc he has primary liver cancer and secondary lung cancer it's incurable and can't be operated on. They have offered chemo to try and manage some of the symptoms but I don't understand why they would make him sick with chemo to manage symptoms of there is no way they can shrink it. Anyone had similar?

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I have a different type of cancer so don't know what type of chemotherapy your husband will be having. If you know the name of it you could add that to your post so that others can share their experiences with you.

I think there's a common misconception that chemotherapy will make you feel very unwell and, while that may be the case for some people, others tolerate it very well. I had my first cycle 10 days ago and, apart from feeling a bit under the weather for the first few days, I haven't experienced (touch wood) any of the side effects that my oncologist had to tell me about. This may be the same for your husband as well.

It would be great if you could pop something about about your husband's diagnosis and treatment so far into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
