My Dad Managing Liver Cancer

Hi,

My dad was diagnosed with liver cancer at the back end of last year and has been having chemo since November last year.It hasn’t spread from the liver and the chemo is managing the tumour currently after the results of the last scan.

It was always the case the intention was to manage the cancer.Although the chemo has really knocked my dad for six and he is a shadow of his former self physically and mentally.

I was wanting to seek peoples experiences of how chemo can work long term….is it viable for someone to keep having chemo when their quality of life is suffering….how long would someone be able to keep having chemo?

Im obviously grateful that the chemo is having a positive effect although I feel the questions need to be asked what are the long term plans?

Would chemo just be seen as prolonging life for as long as possible for a 66 year old with an orange sized tumour in their liver?

Thanks

  • Hi and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I don't have any personal experience of having long term chemotherapy but I noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet. Responding to you will 'bump' it back to the top of the discussion list where it'll hopefully be spotted by someone with the relevant experience.

If you don't get any replies you could post your questions in the ask a nurse section of the online community and one of the specialist cancer nurses will reply within 3 working days.

While you're waiting for replies it would be great if you could pop something about your dad's diagnosis and treatment into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
