Hi I have a number of lesions on my liver. The hepatologist tells me I have a MRI AND PET which have ruled out malignancy ,yet I still have all the symtoms of what feels like stomach cancer eg paralysed gut, feeling of fullness black stool,Should I insist on a biopsy? I also feel I have fluid in the gut, yet he has not done an ultrasound ,should insist on that also?

Are there specialisms that could help me get a diagnosis other than a hepatologist eg an oncologist or gastrointologist?

  • Hi  and welcome to the online community

I'm not a member of this group but I noticed that your post had gone unanswered.

I have to confess to being slightly confused by your post as you've given it the title of "Liver cancer - how is it diagnosed" but then gone on to say in the main body of the post that you "have all the symptoms of stomach cancer".

Hopefully, you don't have either of these types of cancer especially as you say that your hepatologist has told you that the scans have ruled out malignancy. However, you might like to read this information on how liver cancer is diagnosed whilst this tells you how stomach cancer is diagnosed.

There is a group for stomach cancer and if you'd like to join it just click on the link I've created and then select 'join this group' on the page that opens.

When you have a minute, it would be really useful if could pop something about your journey so far into your profile as it helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Edit Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

Do come back and let the group know how you get on.
