Hi everyone,I’m new to this group,2 weeks ago it was confirmed I’ve got stage 3 advanced laryngeal cancer I’m 42 years of age the tumour is sitting just above my voice box,if I’m honest I’m just so frightened,I’m seeing the oncologist on Tuesday all I no at the moment from my surgeon is I will be having chemo and radiation for 6 weeks,I can’t tell you how scared I feel I’m Just looking for a bit of advice on what to expect,as anyone had this stage cancer and had chemo and radiation I’m fully prepared for the treatment to be brutal,im not sure how many chemos I will have I just was told it will be a 6 week treatment plan with radiation and chemo

  • Hi Claire. I\m Dani, one of the community champions for the head and neck forum where you could post as well as here. It tends to be busier there and there are folk who have had CRT for the same cancer as you

Chemo is usually three doses spread apart or a lower dose weekly. Radiotherapy is the main treatment which produces the nasty side effects. Chemo does make them worse I'm afraid though

The. chances are that you won't notice much apart from a prickly throat till the end of week two. After that it becomes increasingly difficult to swallow if at all. Have you been offered a stomach tube? Grab the offer, you won't regret it.

Stay with us, there's lots of help available here and in Head and Neck
