I was diagnosed with a very rare embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma of the larynx and left vocal chord and false chord i have had 7 resection surgeries the last in july which unfortunately didnt get all the cancer out .

I have been referred to a sarcoma specialist who admits that he has never treated this cancer before as is so rare and never in a patient with so many other health issues his suggestion is chemo and  radiotherapy. 2 chemos vincristine and cyclophosphamide, but due to my severe lung disease with frequent infections diabetes epilepsy just to name a few, he knows i wont be able to tolerate high dose required and the low dose if tolerable will give no long term control of disease.

My pet scan showed cancer only in the oeiginal site no lymph involvement either . I really dont know what to do my eldest daughter is a care nurse  and believes the chemo will kill me before the cancer will . I struggle daily with basic tasks due to my breathing difficulties and know that both the chemo s suggested have an effect on both the lungs and the heart so im really struggling with this decision .

Im 44 with 6 kids 3 are adults 2 have special needs and iv known i wouldnt live a long life for years because of the lung disease but this one has thrown me . After 2 years to get the diagnosis and being told its extremely aggressive i was shocked that there had been no metastasis in all that time.

i have been taking a range of natural remedies since diagnosis and have had nothing from hospital apart from the surgeries . I dont want to die obviojsly but i also dont want to live the life i have too sick to function. I really dont know what to do, can anyone help me in this awful situation Disappointed

  • Hi

I'm sorry to read how much you're currently struggling and it does sound like you've had a long and difficult time.

Although I'm not a member of this forum, I noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet. Responding to you will 'bump' it back to the top of the discussion list again.

You might also want to join and post in the main head and neck cancer forum which is a 'busier' forum than this one and does cover people with cancer of the larynx.

It would be great if you could put something about your diagnosis and treatment to date into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
