Hello just wondering how do you unblock your nose after a laryngectomy,

  • Hi Hoopy. That’s a question! My late husband had a laryngectomy and he just used to squeeze his nose. I suppose you could use a nasal douche. I’ll tag a couple of Champs from the head and neck section. They might be able to help.

  • Hi Hoopy, in my experience the short answer is that you can't; I've not actually experienced a blocked nose since my surgery but runny nose is a regular occurrance, and having no air flow means it's uncontrollable. I just carry tissues with me exerywhere I go, it's annoying.

Sorry I can't be more helpful.

  • Good evening hoopy, i have been a laryngectomee since 2010 and like MikeO have never had to unblock my nose , if i do a laryngectomy sneeze then i do sometimes have to wipe my nose but that is not very often, i don't have air fresheners in the house or really strong fabric conditioner as that can cause me to sneeze. Hope this helps, take care.
