I've had a sore throat, cough and hoarsness since November. I was reference to ENT by my GP. I saw ENT early Feb and was given a laryngoscopy. The consultant saw some bleeded from my right vocal chord but though this may have been caused by excessive coughing. He said he would referred me as an urgent case to ENT at Head and Neck Cancer. I had my appointment on Monday and received the same Laryngoscopy check. The consultant said he would refer to a colleague and would get back to me within the week. two hours after my appointment I received a telephone call requesting I go in for a Pre Op on Friday in preparation for a direct laryngoscopy and Biopsy. At this appointmnent the Nurse informed me a PEP CT Scan and MRI Scan had been requested.
On Saturday I received an appointmenmt for the MEI Scan.
Sorry for the long winded post, my question is.
Why would they book me in for scans if I've not had the direct laryngoscopy and biopsy ? do they not confirm I have a problem before the scans ?
I would appreciate any feedback. Thank You
Hello rth500, i suppose they are doing the scans so it gives them a better view of the tumour and what it's doing, you are right normally a biopsy is the first test they do but they need to make sure they do the biopsy in the right area and the scan will hopefully do this. The good thing is you are being seen now so at least things are progressing. Good luck on Friday and please let us know how you get on best wishes.
Chris
