My husband has been receiving immunotherapy and his Dr wants to add Cabozantinib into the mix. Had anyone has experience of this and what side effects? He is currently in rehab after a stroke

  • Someone was asking the same recently, here ->  cabozantinib

And/Or you can search for cabo in the kidney group here https://community.macmillan.org.uk/search?q=Cabozantinib#serpq=Cabozantinib&serp=1&serpgroup=103

  • Hi SIFitz,

As a newbie to the forum, If it is of any help, I was diagnosed with stage 4 kidney cancer December 2024, (manageable but not curable ) and it has spread to a nodule in each lung and lymph nodes, my only indication of trouble was  worsening vision in my left eye, described as "rarer than rare" on visits and biopsy at Moorfields and scans etc at St Barts. I have now lost eyesight in one eye.

I started my treatment in January and have now had 4 infusions, 5th next week. Treatment is an infusion of Immunotherapy  (Nivolumab) every 28 days, and a daily 40mg tablet of chemotherapy (Cabozantinib).

Side effects experienced so far are,

Very sore mouth, sore jaw, tender edges of my feet and finger tips, feeling cold , exhaustion after exercise, hair loss, voice changes and uncomfortable tummy.  But, I have noticed that these side effects start off bad, but after 2-3 weeks diminish, (are still there but no where no so bad).

This list may sound horrendous, but in the whole scale of things , I can cope with them. Exhaustion is the worst as I have always been fit, and to find I have to rest comes hard. CT scans results after the first 3 treatment periods (84 days) are positive with a reduction in the size of the tumours. lets hope it continues, fingers crossed.

    Good Luck.
