New Tumour

Hi All

I've recently been diagnosed with a grade 1 4.5 cm tumour in my right kidney and been added to the waiting list in Lothian for a full nephrectomy.

This isn't my first brush with cancer as over the last 8 years I've had 3 separate cancers in my mouth and neck. The last one involved major surgery to remove my soft palate and insert a flap of skin from my forearm. That one left me unable to eat or drink and so I have a PEG tube through which I feed 6 Fortisip a day.

I read online that high protein drinks such as Fortisip are not great for those with renal issues. Does anybody know what the risks are here? I have reached out to my dietician but she has advised that she is not experienced in renal cancer.

Thanks in advance

  • Hi

I don't know the answer to your question and that's a rubbish answer from your dietician!

But I am over the bridge in Fife so thought I would say hello and welcome. Wave

I'm at the Western.  Perhaps you are too?

  • Hey there

Thanks for reply. Sounds like you have been through the works !

My kidney cancer is unrelated to my mouth ones and hasn't spread elsewhere so I'm hopeful that the operation will stop that happening. I haven't had any symptoms and it was only picked up by a CT following an unexplained infection and slight abdominal ache.

Yes I'm at WGH - Tuesdays every 3 months for head & neck and now Fridays for urology. Hoping the op comes through quickly
