Hello, I’m new to this group. I was diagnosed with kidney cancer in 2019 (found while being investigated for a different problem, which I’m told is not uncommon). I had a partial nephrectomy to my left kidney, and the tumour was removed successfully. I still feel very lucky to still be here. I have had ct scans for five years, and now been discharged by my oncology team. In December 2023, following annual blood/urine tests my GP explained that I had Stage 3a chronic kidney disease. I understood that it could be maintained and I should remain at this stage for a few years. I did quite a bit of research, and one site suggested that it could have been linked to the partial nephrectomy. In November last year, again following blood tests etc I have now been diagnosed with stage 4 chronic kidney disease. I just wondered if any else on here has had a partial nephrectomy and gone on to develop chronic kidney disease?
Hi , I had a tumour on my kidney about 15 years ago. I had my kidney removed, I have stage 3b kidney disease. I have just recently had blood tests to check my kidney, my kidney function has declined, it was 50eGFR January 24, September 24 it was 44, had blood tests 11/2/25 it’s now 40. Am having another blood test in 3 weeks.
Hi Heny, my egfr is currently 29, but I also have lots of protein in my kidneys, and high blood pressure. My consultant’s priority is to now get the protein under control to maintain me at this stage for as long as possible. I was taking two types of blood pressure meds but he’s stopped one completely and doubled the other one, which should help with my protein too. I did contact the National Kidney Federation, the phone was answered immediately by a lovely lady and we had a good chat. She sent me some useful information, and was very supportive, worth a call if you are worrying about your situation. I was hopeful, after discharge from oncology, that everything would be okay. I am confident with my renal consultant and he is determined to do what he can to help me. Good luck with your next set of results, and please contact here anytime for a chat.
I have stage 3b kidney disease. I had my left kidn removed 17 years ago,
last week had routine blood tests and my kidney eGFR had dropped to 40, January 24 it was 50, September 24 went down to 44, I am very concerned. I am very tired and losing weight. My GP has emailed the Urologist asking for advice.
I weighed myself this mornin, I am now 10st 2, last week I was 10 sr 6, perhaps it’s because I am worrying.

I try not to show am worried to my husband and daughter has I do not want them worrying.
Hi Lizzie, I am very tired everyday. My GP has contacted the Urologist for advice, in the meantime I just have to wait until I hear from her. I weighed myself again this morning, have gone Down to 10st 2 from 10st 6 of last week. It’s good to be able to talk with someone
