Hi I wonder if anyone has had this problem, my husband has kidney cancer in both kidneys that has metastasised in his lungs, he was told in November he was anemic and they weren't sure if to give him a blood transfusion but being him he said it was ok, however for a while he’s been losing blood in his urine, he’s been on antibiotics for an infection but after his blood test for the immunotherapy yesterday they cancelled todays treatment and he goes for a blood transfusion in the morning she noticed on the phone how breathless he was and explained his breathlessness (that he was convinced was his lung cancer) was in fact a symptom of low haemoglobin. He asked me to check online what it meant and of course I googled it but wish I hadn’t, on everyone I saw it said most likely his liver has metastasised too but I just said it’s says he will feel better after the blood transfusion my husband isn’t familiar with Google, computers aren’t his thing, I’m just wondering has anyone had this and if so did you feel better after the blood transfusion, thanks for reading
Hi Linzilou and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.
I’m Anne, one of the Community Champions here on the Online Community and, although I'm not a member of this group , I noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet. Responding to you will 'bump' it back to the top of the discussion list again.
While you're waiting for replies, it would be great if you could put something about your husband's diagnosis and treatment to date into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
Hi Linzilou, I have kidney cancer with lung mets and had such low haemoglobin my treatment got cancelled. I had two blood transfusions, over the course of two days. A week later I also had an iron infusion, then treatment started a couple of days later. I felt so much better after the first blood transfusions, energy levels went up, aches and pains in my muscles disappeared, improving more with each infusion. Mine hasn’t spread to my liver and the only way to know if your husband’s has is when he has a scan. I wish you both all the best on this difficult journey.
Hi I am so sorry that your husband is going through this horrendous journey. My husband was 53 years old when he suddenly died. His post mortem came back to say that he died of a large saddle pulmonary embolism and kidney cancer which was in both kidneys. My husband and me never knew that my husband had kidney cancer. It was such a shock. He did have symptoms but put it down to a high fall he had 20 months before which I do wonder if it caused his cancer. They say that kidney cancer is very rare and so are saddle blood clot. No answer is very hard. I really hope that your husband has treatment which will give him a good quality of life and to have some lovely memories. Take care I do hope that my post hasn't upset you Xx
