Quick diagnosis, no symptoms totally undetected and in 2 weeks surgery to remove kidney and tumour- woo!

Very scary prospect and dreading what recovery looks like…

  • Radical L nephrectomy and large tumour removed a week ago, recovery slow and painful but not as much as waiting on the pathology results regarding stage and grade of cancer plus the hopefully possible treatment discussion.

NHS Glasgow surgical pathway and service was ok, only 2 nights in-patient and discharged on a Sunday home, which is unusual.

I would recommend anyone waiting on this major surgery to read what lived-experienced survivors share on here as it went a long way in managing some of my fears and anxiety.

That’s step one done, now the unknown and worrying uncertainty is here initial I get results and an appointment with the consultant to hear what lies ahead for me on this cancer journey.

  • Hi Niko

Pleased to hear you are through the first part of journey & you are on the road to recovery. Just take it easy your body will tell you what you can and can't do.

Hope u get an appointment for your results soon again it is the waiting time that makes everyone anxious. I had a telephone consultation not a face to face which I would have preferred.

Sending positive thoughts please let us know when you get your results.

    • Take Care
  • Same as me, no symptoms and picked up on a scan for something else. The first two weeks I was very weak and couldn’t do much at all - four months on I’m feeling much better, hopefully you’ll be the same. My results came through after six weeks - it’s a long wait but fingers crossed, it’ll be good news. Mine was stage 2 cancer but no evidence it had spread. Good luck with your recovery. Don’t try to do too much and in the short term try to focus on getting over the op.
    good luck

  • Well done Niko. First and biggy step over and done.
Waiting sucks but Fingers crossed for good pathology results and soon.
Keep posting and most importantly keep taking your own advice by reading survivors lived experiences for reassurance whatever the outcome.
