  • Hi all my tumour was totally out of the blue in may my partner had noticed blood in the loo during the night from myself so I went to the docs..after scans, tests more scans they found something on my right kidney turned out to be a 16 cm tumour weighing in at a kilo on the 30th June I had that and my kidney removed today it was diagnosed as malignant and aggressive stage 3 but they’re confident they got it all and it’s not spread either..today’s diagnosis is very bittersweet cos yes it’s a good outcome but the words aggressive and a stage 3 are very scary and yes I’m scared I’m 52 and still recovering looking at going back to work in about 3 weeks so that will have been 6 weeks since op does this sound like a plan or too early thank you all
  • I think it is far to early I had mine back in march and the mental side of ut and the constant headaches and fatigue is so hard just be careful give yourself time to mend

  • I feel great in myself to be honest but I suppose work is different to being at home isn’t it

    thank you

  • Yes it is plus it would all depend on what sort of work I felt OK for a short while but the reality kicks in don't rush it's a major surgery you have had

  • Perhaps you could try working part time to start with WHEN you are fit enough to work

  • My CNS reminded me after my radical RNU,  just because you cannot see the shark bite you have to remember you have had major surgery! So take it easy and don’t overdo it, wishing you well

  • I am now 6 weeks post Radical Nephrectomy. My kidney mass was 17cm x 11cm. I don't know how they got it out of the keyhole incision. I too have been told I am all clear. Are you having a 6 week post op consultation, this should help putting your mind at rest. I just have to have a 5 year, 6 month at a time CT Scan. I know it is alway's on your mind, but you have to try and keep positive. We are all here to support you.

  • Hi, well ypu have had a narrow escape. Well done. As for going back to work. It feels too soon to me. You must ask your gp as your not to lift anything heavier than a bag of sugar for 6 months. You will be tired for another 2 months and I was still in pain for 3 months. You will have nerve tissue which is still numb but as the feeling comes back I get twinges after 5 months. Its a huge experience give yourself time after all its not just physical its mental strain too so  perhaps go back part time and see how you feel. Best wishes. Lxx

  • Thank you all for your kind words I work as a betting shop manager and so I do ridiculous 14 hour shifts which obvs I won’t be doing when I go back anyway I’m sure they will be flexible for me..I had open surgery so have a pretty huge incision so I need to be careful with that aswell

  • Oh I see....I had robotic surgery with 5 small incisions which is a faster healing process so yes! Your recovery is going to be longer. 14 hrs def out of the question. 2-3 hrs at most after 3 months more realistic. I feel we have all dogged a bullet so need to take stock and embrace our recovery. You are entitled to benefits for this period. Take care of you..♡♡♡♡

  • Agree totally with Lar, I also had robotic surgery but had ureter and bladder cuff as well as kidney removal, am feeling great now but took a few weeks as had surgery 24th April.
