Hi everyone. Hi. Just found out I have kidney cancer that has moved to my chest nodes and lung. The tumor is 10cm in my kidney and 2cm in my lung. What are the most common treatments and prognosis please.

  • Hi  and sorry to hear your news.  I was diagnosed in Nov 2021 with kidney cancer spread to lungs.  You asked about common treatments.  Once it's spread then other treatments take precedence over surgery.  Immunotherapy is a popular approach.  It adjusts the immune system balance to use it to attack the cancer.  I understand chemo and radiotherapy are not known to be effective or commonly used for KC.  The treatments are developing all the time.   A Prognosis is just a guess based on statistics from trials at least 5 years ago.  Even the same treatment on the same cancer in two different people can have diverse outcomes.    I was told 5 years before I started treatment and 2 years with no treatment. But I've had a good response to the drugs and I won't be asking for an outlook again.  Instead I bombard my oncologist with questions and what-if scenarios and read the room appropriately.

You might have a biopsy next to determine the type of kidney cancer.  Renal cell carcinoma is the most common.  Once they know the type then they will recommend treatment plan or options for you to chose from.  Good luck and keep us up to date.  Always someone on here to help xx

  • Thank you so much for reply Mmum. You have give a great overview of what is coming my way. I have a call from the nurse this afternoon as the cancer team are discussing my case today and now have all the information they need. I hope everything goes well with your treatment, will keep you posted. Thank you again for your support at a difficult time xx
