Hi  I was diagnosed yesterday with Kidney cancer, this was found after I'd had an unrelated ultrasound scan last week, I have had no symptoms and the tumour is about 5cm, I have no idea if it has spread but am going for a PET scan, I am terrified that it has spread, it would be lovely to hear other peoples experiences as this is totally terrifying.

  • Hello and welcome to the group.

I too had a similar experience. I had my kidney removed and although painful for the first week I am living a more comfortable life. I was told there was no sign of cancer after surgery. I had no further treatment and a six month review, which I will have over the summer.

My advice to you is don't waste your energy over something you can't control. Take it a step at a time. If you're able to, exercise, even if it's a walk. It's good for your health and your mind.

Good luck and keep in touch.

    Carney

  • Thank you so much, it means so much to hear from someone who has been through a similar experience and I'm glad there was no other cancer.  I will definitely take your advice.  I am having a colonoscopy on Friday just to check out my bowel and intestine, the Consultant doesn't think there is anything to worry about there but just wants to rule it out - thanks again for your reply

  • Hi, I have been diagnosed with a 3.7cm tumour on my left kidney but fortunately the follow up CT scan showed no apparent spread. I'm now waiting on a date for a robotic assisted partial removal. At first the news comes as a bombshell as it was picked up on a routine MRI scan I had done as I have Crohns disease and thought I was having a 'flare up'. I've now sort of reconciled myself to 'what will be, will be' as stress doesn't do my Crohns any good at all. There is some really good info and advice on here but try and stay positive

  • Hi - I had an US scan (Sept/Oct 2021) to investigate rubbish liver function tests.  It revealed the mass on my kidney which was escalated to a CT scan (Nov 2021), and the rest is history.  I had no symptoms, although in retrospect I was feeling under the weather, but I just got on with life.

I did read the room as all the diagnostic pieces gradually came together.  I knew it was cancer, but I just thought I'd be looking at a whip-it-out partial removal perhaps.  Or perhaps the "has it spread to my lymph nodes?" question.  It was a bit of a shock to then be advised it had spread to my lungs, albeit small metastases, and just on the edge.

Hey ho, sh1t happens huh?!  Now going for Super Responder status with the immunotherapy.  All is not doom and gloom.
