  1. My partner is 36 and  in September he was told by his consultant that he was 95% sure the 5.5cm mass in is kidney was cancer, because of his age want to be 100%  sure its cancer before they remove it  he has has 2 biopsys which have came back in conclusive, the samples did contain  cancer cells but this still doesn't confirm its cancer.
  2. He had a meeting yesterday with a consultant who told him that if he was in his 70s they would just remove it, but the decision is down to him whether he has it taken out.
  3. This is such a big decision for him to make, has anyone else had this experience.
  • Hi Dionne,

Indeed a big decision for your partner to make. So young too. I have a 9cm tumour in/on my kidney. I'm pretty sure they're just going to remove the whole kidney (nephrectomy). I am older than your partner though.

Apparently, and i have it on good authority, we can live quite happily with just one kidney. That said - i would rather have two if that's how i was made. A chap my wife knows had one of his kidneys removed when he was in his early 20's. He is a healthy 57 now.

I'm only saying this to you in case he does have to have it removed. Sounds like, from what you say, they want to take it out.

If he chooses to not have it out i suppose they would have to monitor him with regular scans.

Such a difficult situation to be thrown into. And so difficult to decide which route to take.

I do hope someone better informed/experienced than me will respond and offer you more insight.

    All the best for now....Del.

  • Hi Del

Thankyou for your kind reply,  it's nice to read something positive, hope all goes well with your surgery.

    All the best
