I recently underwent surgery to remove my kidney and ureta, the medics having found a tumour in the ureta just below the kidney. It turns out some cancer cells were found outside the ureta wall si I'm waiting for an Oncology appointment. I've no idea what treatment they will recommend.

Hi  welcome to the kidney cancer group

It depends on whether they want to give you systemic treatment or not - which you'll need to ask when you see the oncologist. Kidney cancer is generally slow growing, so they may decide to just "watch n wait" , ie keep an eye on you with regular scans n treat it if need be.

Do take someone with you if you can, to note down their answers so you can look back at them in the clear light of day. It also helps to have your questions written down too, to keep you focussed and so you don't forget to ask something you then decide was vital!

Thank you, that's helpful. I've been waiting for the promised Oncology appointment and not having heard I rang today. Apparently, I've been referred back to my surgical consultant for more info (?), scans etc. Now I'm very confused as to what's happening  and having difficulty making contact with anyone. Reception either don't answer or don't return my calls.

Does  this referral back make any sense to you?

Sounds like they just want more information from the scans etc. A case of the 2 consultants need to talk to each other. Pity they don't keep you in the loop tho!

Which reception are you having difficulty getting hold of? Have you tried the cancer nurse specialist for oncology?
