We are struggling to cope with the new diagnosis of my wife with 'incurable' Transitional Cell Carcinoma in the renal pelvis which has metastasised to the lymph nodes.
Having led reasonably healthy lives (we both trained as PE teachers) she has survived a few major health crises without problems so the 'incurable' bit is difficult to come to terms with. This is with retiring to the South Coast into a road full of people with health issues and being the healthy ones on the block!
Currently awaiting 'Palliative Chemo' and undergoing lots of tests.
We have been referred on to Oncology and told surgery is not a good option but had few technical details. We would like to be sure that surgery is not a better option so want to seek a second opinion. Neither GP nor hospital want to recommend anyone, saying we just need to refer ourselves. Who to? How do we choose which institution to approach?
Any hints would be most welcome
Sorry I didn't respond to your helpful advice. It has been a busy and eventful year since then.
You're right; fear of what may come is the worst.
However, we are now through the worst and have had a very successful, nay miraculous, outcome as it appears the surgery we finally got has removed the cancer - for now at least - and recovery is progressing.
The full story is in my reply to 'fedupperson' (Dawn) below.
Prior to 2005 Rickmansworth was very local to us but we retired to the South coast and only rarely go back now.
I hope your story is a positive one - hopefully as positive as ours. Facing the unknown was and is difficult but while there is something to be done it is worth persevering.
Best wishes
Steve (and Cynthia)
Hello Steve and Cynthia,
I am so glad your perseverance has paid off. I have just seen your last update and really hope and pray things are still going as well. I have not been on this site very regularly. I had been clear of Cancer at scans for two years. Recently had a fright but seems to be okay. I'll be honest it did upset me though, happening at a time when there were family problems.
Please let us know how you both are.
Best Wishes,
Dawnxx
