Hello everyone, just want to firstly wish you all well on your journeys.
I am 40 years old and after an ultrasound at end of Feb for dizziness and fainting I was told a 2cm lesion had been found on my right kidney. I was called back in for a CT scan a few days later and was then told they think it’s cancer but it would be discussed at an MDT meeting.
I’ve met my surgeon and my nurse and am due to have an operation on 3rd June. It was a partial removal but at my pre assessment yesterday the nurse said it was a full removal as it was mid pole in the kidney?
I just feel so stressed and confused, I work full time for the NHS and they are being a bit funny about me proving I need time off, I care for my husband full time as he is recently disabled after having Cauda Equina last year and six children.
just feel like I’m juggling loads of balls and will end up dropping them all
Thank you for taking the time to read x
Hi Tinkerbell40 and welcome to the group, but sorry you find yourself here. I have a different cancer to you, but noticed your post has not been answered, so hope you don't mind me commenting here.
Finding out that you now have to have a full kidney removal must of been a shock for you. You have an awful lot on your plate right now, and the last thing you need is pressure from work. I recently shared a work leaflet in the lung group, which I think is extremely helpful, and explains your rights at work during treatment. I will post it HERE for you, I hope it helps.
Hopefully someone in the group who has had a similar treatment, will be along to share their experience with you. You can also call the Macmillan support line on 0808 808 00 00. They are available 7 days a week from 8am til 8pm.
Take care
Hi Tinkerbell,
Hope it's a good day so far for you .
I had similar with my work although not the NHS but a large multi national company .explained i was diagnosed with Kidney Cancer and was having major surgery to remove right kidney ,they wanted me back within 2 weeks .the hospital team were great I had a letter from the pre op team explaining the recovery period and I also got a sick note for a month on discharge from hospital.
At home now recovering and although I'm a fit and able person no way I could go back to full time yet (be 2weeks on Monday)
Hope it all goes well .
Just wanted to say I understand and sympathise that you are so stressed. You have rights at work but it is hard to remember this when they are being unsympathetic. xxx
